Prime Ministers of India
The Prime Minister of India is the head of the Government of India. In Indian Constitution, President is the Head of State and Prime Minister is chief executive along with his council of ministers.
Since Independence, India has had fourteen Prime Ministers of India (fifteen if counting Gulzarilal Nanda twice. He became prime minister two times).
Jawaharlal Nehru was the first prime minister of India. He became Prime Minister on 15th August 1947 and served till May 1964. He was succeeded by Lal Bahadur Shastri, who died after 19 months of working in. Indira Gandhi, The daughter of Jawahar Lal Nehru succeeded Shastri in 1966 and she became the first woman Prime Minister of India.
